Basketball Event Canceled

Hi everyone,

Due to insufficient entry turnout, I regret to inform you all that we must cancel this year's basketball tournament on August 23 and 24. I want to thank all the people who volunteered up to this point trying to make this happen, but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Hopefully, we will be able to pull it off next year.

But all is not lost. On September 6, there will be a charity golf tournament at Hiddenbrooke, sponsored by my company, Progressive Insurance. This is the first golf tournament that Progressive is putting on for Kyle, and it *has* to make a good first impression. It is essential that it be successful for it to continue next year.

We will definitely need volunteers for this event. Not only will there be golf, but we're having a lunch, dinner, silent auction, and raffle so even nongolfers can participate. We need help with selling raffle tickets, soliciting donations and, most importantly, getting golfers to sign up. It won't be as daunting as the basketball tournament, because it's at one location instead of scattered at several gyms, it should be easier to get individuals to sign up instead of entire teams, and we have more time to get the word out instead of being under the wire. But I'll still need your help. Please let me know what you can do. I thank all of you for what you've done for me, my family, and Kyle. But there's still a lot to do, and every little bit helps.

The next meeting will be Monday, August 4, 7:30 pm at my house. It's a pot luck gathering, so please bring something to share. We'll get updated reports from everyone then. Again, we're looking to sell raffle tickets, seek donations for the raffle and silent auction prizes (gift baskets, gift cards, memorabilia, services), and sign golfers and groups of golfers (recruiting entrants *and* helping with registration). Of course, we'll need volunteers to help out on event day.

Golf Entry Form Available, New Picture Galleries, Need Teams

The entry form for the KCLF Golf Tournament is now available for download here and on the Golf Event web page. Once again, contact Doug Blanchard at dblanch1@progressive.com or (510) 719-8237 for questions regarding the golf tournament.

We finally have pictures from the 2007 Basketball Tournament and Rubio’s Night fundraisers — check them out. Each has its own album in the Pictures page. There’s also a rare picture of the Choi clan at Christmas, soon after Kyle was released from the hospital but before he came down with an infection and had to be readmitted.

The Strengthened by Faith Basketball Jamboree desperately needs more teams signed up! If you know of any youth group interested in playing, boys or girls, 4th grade through high school, please let them know! We have new contact and tournament information for both the basketball jamboree and golf tournament: Gerald Cabalse (gerald.cabalse@eds.com) will be fielding questions and team registrations for basketball, and Douglas Blanchard (dblanch1@progressive.com) will be handling the entries for golf. In addition, the “Events” page entry for each event also has a link to a downloadable flyer for that event.

The links in the Leukemia page describing the different common types of leukemia now point to information from the Mayo Clinic and the National Marrow Donor Program.

For those who want to go straight to the latest updates, the main page now has a link to a What’s New section. Also, it has been renamed Home in the navigation bar instead of Welcome.

Due to availability of gyms, the Strengthened by Faith Basketball Jamboree has been again rescheduled to take place on the weekend of August 23-24, rather than August 16-17.

Due to availability of gyms, the Strengthened by Faith Basketball Jamboree has been rescheduled to take place on the weekend of August 16/17, rather than August 2-3.

A new web page thanking the donors and volunteers has been added.

The date has been set for the Charity Golf Tournament. It will take place on Saturday, September 6, at 1:30 pm at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo.
